Red Deer & 30 minutes around it

It was never just about the dog. It's about the handler.

Obedience, leash manners, reactivity and puppy training — taught to the person on the other end of the leash, so it still holds six months from now. Book a free consultation with Kayla and find out what is actually going on.

😌 Most "aggressive" dogs aren't.They're reactive — and reactive is trainable.
Why this one sticks

Why this works when the last thing didn't

Most training fails the moment the trainer goes home. Quest K9 is built the other way around.

🧍

We train you first

Dogs just do dog stuff. What actually changes the dog is the person holding the leash, so that is where we start.

👀

The read starts in the driveway

How you unload your dog, how you hold the leash, how they check in with you. Most of the answer is there before anyone says a word.

😤

Reactive, not aggressive

Nearly every "aggressive" dog Kayla meets is a reactive one that has had a lot of practice at the wrong thing. That is a very different problem, with a much better ending.

🔄

Habits, not party tricks

You leave with things you can keep doing on a busy Tuesday night, not a routine that quietly falls apart by next week.

8 in 10

Most of the dogs here are not first-timers

Roughly eight out of ten of Kayla's clients came to her after training somewhere else didn't stick. If you have already tried and you are starting to wonder whether it is you — it isn't. It's the plan you were handed.

Sound familiar?

What we get called about most

These four cover almost every call. Every one of them is fixable, usually faster than you would think.

🦮

Pulls like a freight train

Walks turn into a workout. You brace, they haul, and nobody comes home relaxed.

😤

Loses it at other dogs

Barking, lunging, hackles up. You have started walking at odd hours just to avoid it.

🙉

Won't come when called

Perfect in the kitchen, completely deaf in an open field. Off leash stops being an option.

🐶

New puppy, no plan

Biting, accidents, chaos with the kids underfoot. You would rather start it right than fix it later.

If it is on this list, it is fixable.

What we work on

Find the right starting point

Every one of these starts the same way: a free consultation, in person, so Kayla can see you and your dog together before anyone talks about a plan.

🎯

Everyday Obedience

Sit, down, place, stay, and manners that hold when the doorbell goes. The unglamorous stuff that makes everything else possible.

🦮

Leash Manners

A walk you would actually choose to go on. No bracing, no hauling, no shoulder ache at the end of the block.

😤

Reactivity

Barking, lunging and losing it at dogs, people or bikes. We work under the threshold and rebuild the response, rather than white-knuckling through it.

🐶

Puppy Foundations

Potty training, biting, crate, handling and early socialising. Start it right and you skip most of the problems on this page.

Meet your trainer

Hi, I'm Kayla

I run Quest K9 out of Red Deer, Alberta. I work with pet dogs and the people who live with them — families, first-time owners, and a lot of folks who have already tried something else.

“Dogs just do dog stuff. It's always the handler.”

That is not me being hard on you. It is the good news. If the dog were the problem you would be stuck with it. Because it is a handling problem, it is something you can learn — and once you have it, you keep it.

So the assessment starts the moment you pull up. How you get your dog out of the vehicle, how you hold the leash, how they check in with you. Most of what I need to know is right there before we have said a word.

I will also be straight with you: I do not take on every dog that calls. If the handler is not going to put the work in, the dog does not get a good outcome, and that outcome has my name on it. Come ready to do the reps and we will get somewhere fast.
